Release Date and Early Access
Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on 23 October 2026. If you pre-order any digital edition, you can start the full campaign a week early on 16 October. Physical disc pre-orders do not include Campaign Early Access – an important detail if you want to play before launch.
Platforms: Switch 2 Joins the Fight

Modern Warfare 4's campaign opens with North Korea launching a full-scale invasion of South Korea. You play as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing real combat for the first time alongside his squad.
Meanwhile, Captain Price has gone rogue. Now operating outside the system he once served, he is fighting a personal war from the shadows while old allies – including Ghost and Gaz – are ordered to bring him in. Valeria, once an enemy, becomes an unlikely ally.
The campaign moves across the world, from trench warfare in Korea to close-quarters fights in New York, chases through Paris, and SAS night raids in Mumbai – a location that will make Indian players especially curious.
Multiplayer and DMZ
- 12 brand-new 6v6 maps at launch, plus large-scale maps with vehicles for bigger battles.
- Kill Block, a new multiplayer experience set in a live-fire military training facility, with fast 10v10 Gunfight-style matches.
- DMZ returns – the extraction mode is back, set in a new exclusion zone called Hajin, where every run forces you to decide what to grab and when to get out.
Movement has been refined for more control, and the game uses Activision's RICOCHET Anti-Cheat on PC.

Should You Pre-Order?
If you are sure you will play the campaign, a digital pre-order is the best value because it unlocks the story a week early and adds the bonus items. If you prefer to own a disc you can lend or resell, the physical Standard Edition is fine – just know you will miss the early campaign access. The Vault Edition is only worth it if you want the extra operators and a season of the battle pass; there is no extra gameplay locked behind it.
